Immaculate Conception Parish was formed May 28, 1977, the fourth new parish to be formed from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Melbourne, a great demonstration of the growth of the Church in Brevard County. Our parish boundaries were set at Franklyn Avenue, Indialantic, in the north to Sebastian Inlet on the south.

Father John S. Murray was assigned as pastor. We had been part of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Melbourne. Our parish boundaries were set as Franklyn Avenue, Indialantic, in the north and Sebastian Inlet on the south.

Father Murray soon authorized construction of our church about 4 miles south of the town of Melbourne Beach, on land already owned by the Diocese of Orlando.

We needed a place to meet until the church was completed. Fr. Murray arranged to have Sunday Masses in the cafeteria of Gemini Elementary School. The rector of St. Sebastian's By The Sea Episcopal Church offered his church for Saturday vigil Mass.

The first Parish Mass was held in St. Sebastian's church at 5 PM Saturday, June 25th, 1977. Our Church was completed in April 1980 and dedicated December 8, 1980, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

The parish physical plant has expanded over the years, with the Parish Center in 1987, the Rectory in 1991, and the Parish Office in 1994.

Under the leadership of our current pastor, Fr. Joseph A. Nolan, Immaculate Conception Parish has continued to improve and expand, physically and spiritually, to serve the Catholic community in our area.
